I realized since I only share one or two pictures from each newborn session on my Facebook, Instagram and Website that people may not realize how many pictures are included in an album. I show parents anywhere from 25-60 images during a viewing session. And really I try to keep it less than 50 because that can be overwhelming when making decisions during the viewing session. 35 images is a good album number to me.
Check out these adorable baby pictures. This session I showed 47 images to the new parents during their viewing session.
A newborn session will typically begin with the family. I like to spend the first 30 minutes of a session with mom, dad, and any siblings. Then after we get all of the relationship images and family pictures out of the way we can concentrate on the new baby. Some mommies do not want to be in the pictures during the newborn session day. If getting your self all ready with make up and hair done sounds more stressful than enjoyable then I am happy to skip it.
Here are some glowing new mommies, handsome daddies and beautiful family pictures.
Next, I typically I do a setup with the baby in a bowl, crate, or fur on the floor. I wrap the baby up and get some shots while they are all snug. Then I slowly unwrap the baby to get some images with more baby skin showing. My favorites from the session typically end up being the curly naked baby in a bowl pictures. And if this baby is a girl then I will probably put flowers around her :) These are my "go to" shots because they are pretty close to guaranteed to work for me. Even fussy babies can typically do a wrapped pose on their back on in a crate. And they always turn out adorable.
Last, I do the bean bag. Here is where I get the bum up, huck fin, hand on chin and side poses of baby. ( I did not name these poses and I do not know who did. These are the names that are used by the pros that train the pros. ) I concentrate on the more natural and comfortable poses for the baby. I cover the bean bag with a blanket and start some flow posing. If it is a fussier baby I will start with a wrapped back pose and then move to a sleepy back pose. These poses help to add variety but work with awake babies because they are comforted by the wrap. If the baby is sleepier I will move on to the huck fin pose, then side pose, and bum up pose. I finish off with the hand on chin pose if the baby is still nice and sleepy. These poses work best with a sleepy baby because they need to keep their hands and feet where I place them.

That is what you can expect from a newborn photo session at my Haslet photography studio. A newborn session typically takes 3 hours to allow time for feeding and soothing. During this time I do 3 different sets and , as you have seen, many poses.
Some parents may be thinking that it is just too much work to get the baby out of the house. These sessions take out a big chunk of the day but the idea is that the mommy and daddy can sit on my couch and chill for most of the session while I do all of the hard work. I typically do all of the baby soothing until they are hungry and then I pass the baby off to mommy. So really you can look at it as your first little break :)
Gorgeous baby pictures are a great way to celebrate and document a new life!
