The top question that I get from clients is "What should I wear?" This question used to be hard for me because I have zero fashion sense. My husband still makes fun of me for the way I dressed in high school. Just to give you a clue... I still liked clothes with Mickey Mouse on it. But jokes on him, he married that girl. But back on topic, if I can come up with photo session outfits so can you! I have four basic tips that anyone can follow to build a great photo session outfit.
1. Don't dress matchy-matchy
Once upon a time, everyone would wear white polos and jeans to their photo session. This is the one thing I really try to get people to stay away from.
What works better is for every one to coordinate instead of match. For example, little sister can have a floral print dress and brother have a plaid shirt with the same color schemes. Then everyone else can pull out colors from their outfits. This is more pleasing to the eye than all one look.
There is one exception to this rule...TWINS! Twins can come to picture day in matching outfits and be adorable :)
2. Pick mom's outfit first
I learned this tip from trying to plan out one of my own family photo sessions. I picked out my daughters outfit and loved it. I knew what color scheme I was going for but could not find something to wear myself. I was at Kohls at 10pm the day before my photo session and could not find something that I liked. That is when I realized that I should have picked out my outfit first. It is most important for the mommy to feel pretty. Normally she is the one that booked the photo session and will be the one picking out the pictures for their walls. Mommy needs to feel good in what she is wearing. The kids will really be adorable in anything. Pick the mommy's outfit first and build everyone else around that.
Above is my most recent family picture. I picked out a simple outfit for myself that I felt comfortable and trendy. Then I picked a cute floral romper for my youngest and worked around the colors out of her romper for my oldest. I love the way we coordinate and go together with out being matchy matchy :)

3. Dress according to the weather
If it is cold outside, layer your baby in warm clothes. If it is hot outside, put your little in shorts or a sun dress. The weather can be tricky when you book a family session in Fort Worth Texas. Maybe mom's heart is stuck on the idea of fall sweaters and then it is 90 degrees outside in November. The problem is, hot or cold babies are not happy babies. We want happy smiling babies so let's make those babies comfortable during the family pictures.
4. Pick a color scheme based on your home decorations
Picking a color scheme can be difficult. Most likely you plan to hang some of your new family photos in your home. Look at your home décor and pull out some colors from there. That way your new images will match perfectly!
Planning the outfits should not be a reason to push your family picture day back anymore. Let's get your Fort Worth Family Session booked now!
