We can all think of the multiple reasons why someone might not want to book a maternity session. Of course there is the weight gain, swollen body parts and good ol' fatigue. Your body just does not feel like your own during the last couple of months of your pregnancy. So why would anyone want to be photographed during this time?
Because pregnancy is an amazingly beautiful time of life. But it is also the most fleeting. Your biggest love, that you have never met, is growing inside of you. The idea of a maternity session is to capture the love, excitement and joy the season of pregnancy has to offer. These are pictures that you will look back on, years after your baby has arrived, and love. You will likely not even see your swollen ankles but you will see the love that you have for your not yet born baby.
Tips for taking maternity pictures that you love.
1. Hire a professional photographer
A professional photographer knows how to use angles, lighting, and posing to make you look your best. The last thing you want to do if you feel uncomfortable about your appearance is to be posed in a way that accents your insecurities instead of minimizing them. Beautiful lighting, in a beautiful setting, with a photographer you trust will result in pictures that you love for ever.
At Stephanie Renee Photography we love to take maternity pictures at our Fort Worth Photography Studio and on location.
2. Hair and Makeup
Hair and makeup artists know how to make a girl feel, and look, good. What better way to boost a girls confidence? Most girls would say that the last time they had their makeup done was at their wedding or even prom. So pamper yourself and get ready for your picture day.
I have a couple of hair and make up artists that I can recommend for you but you can use your own as well.
3. Borrow or Rent a dress
A fun new trend in maternity photography is the big fancy dress. There are many photographers that rent out these dresses in order to finance their dress purchasing addiction. I have a rack full of dresses in my studio that you can use too! But really your options are near endless with all of the dress rentals available. If dressing up isn't your thing then just wear whatever makes you feel pretty! Pick out a favorite outfit or two and come to your session. The most important thing is that you feel beautiful.
4. Include the family
Future big sisters and brothers are excited too! Pregnancy pictures that include the family are some of the most cherished pictures of all. So after you get some images of you, alone, with your growing belly then include the whole family! They are all apart of this story.
5. Relax and Have fun
Again, this session is mostly about capturing your joy, love and excitement. That is difficult to do if you are not being yourself and not enjoying yourself during your session. This is where picking your professional photographer is important. You want to find someone that doesn't make you feel nervous or uncomfortable. One of my favorite compliments, after a session, is that I made the session feel easy and the client feel comfortable. Try not to put too much pressure on your self or on the photo session it self. Just go and have a good time. This is the best way to guarantee that you will love your pictures for a lifetime.

You can book your session as early in your pregnancy as you would like. My recommended for session time is between week 30 - 36. You want to have a big enough belly to see that you are pregnant but you don't want to wait too long in case you deliver a couple of weeks early.
